Ashwin Raguraman is a cofounder and Partner at the Bharat Innovation Fund, a USD 100 Mn.
venture capital fund investing in early stage innovation driven technology start-ups in India.
Investing for a year now, the fund has made seven investments, four of which are in AI startups.
Prior to this, he was the founder and Chief Operating Officer at the India Innovation Fund, an early
stage venture capital fund, supporting IP driven start-ups in the ICT and Life Science sectors. The
fund was set up in 2010 and achieved a full exit from its portfolio in 2016. Notable investments
include Mitra Biotech and Sedemac Mechatronics.
Apart from driving this flagship program, Ashwin has been intimately involved in the start-up
ecosystem in India earlier heading the Innovation Initiative at NASSCOM and drove the mandate to
increase innovation in the Indian IT Industry. He was also responsible for the creation of a Special
Interest Group on Embedded Systems, an Auto Component-Information Technology cluster and the
NASSCOM Innovation Awards.
Ashwin started his career as an engineer onboard the Very Large Crude-oil Carriers of Maersk, and
has since also played a business role at Wipro Technologies, where he managed solutioning for
fortune 50 customers.
Ashwin has also been a member of a Government of India committee, the SIP-EIT committee to
evaluate start-ups for providing funding for International patents. He has also led the efforts on a
research study – “Embedded Systems Opportunity: Powering Indian IT up the Value Chain” He is a
speaker and an evaluator at several entrepreneur events and business plan competitions, and is also
an advisor to many entrepreneurs.
